Two Days of Thunder @ Queensland Raceway
Jun 24 @ 7:30 am

2016_2_Days_of_ThunderA relatively informal convoy will be held Sunday 24th June 2018 to travel to Queensland Raceway to watch day 2 of the racing of the 2 days of thunder event.

If you want to come along those attending and wanting to travel together will leave from the top carpark of KFC Redbank at 7.45am for an eta at QR of 8.00am where we will park together in the show and shine area in pit row.

Entry price for the day is $30 per adult with kids under 12 free. All paid at the gate and just need to advise them that you are participating in show and shine and they will direct you where to go.

Details are a little scarce and have not been confirmed but it is expected that the normal show and shine in pit row will be on with limited trophies as well as the lunchtime parade laps for show and shine participants.

Regardless, it is always a good days racing to watch and a small number of club members are likely to be participating via their own entry in one or more of the classes running.

As it is informal no need to advise in advance and all you need do is turn up at KFC prior to departure time or head straight to QR direct.

We want the venue to keep its community licence to operate well into the future.

Rules for Happy Laps – (They may seem onerous but the vast majority attending will have participated before and have always left smiling and asking to do it again – So here’s your chance)

HAPPY LAPS ARE NOT HOT LAPS or TEST LAPS

Happy Laps are for family cruising NOT performance driving,

So;

  • Any car-to-car contact is an instant stop for the session
  • Any car going off the track is an instant stop for the session
  • >1 sec of tyre smoke is an instant stop for the session
  • Speed obviously in excess of 120kph is an instant stop for the session; this is more than fair as there are sprints and drag events that hot drivers can participate in if they want to go fast.
  • In addition, during Happy Laps;
  • No helmets are to be worn by anybody
  • No unregistered or trailered cars are permitted on the track
  • No cars fitted with aftermarket roll cages
  • All cars must have current registration and plates must not be obscured
  • Drivers may be breath tested including by the Police – anyone reading more than 0.00 will be banned from the track
  • QR will name and shame drivers who push the limits and cause a session to be cancelled

RSVP – Final numbers are needed by Tuesday prior to event so see dates above and via email [email protected].  Please indicate your name and number attending. If you want to pay by Credit Card in advance we need your, number, expiry and ccv and I will process Friday before the event. The club has to advise and pay in advance so if you advise your attendance we need your payment. The event is being run at no profit to keep prices reasonable so what we charge is what we have to pay QR.

I look forward to seeing you there for Breakfast and some fun on one of the most iconic race tracks in Australia and one steeped in a rich motorsport history.

Spectators can park inside as there is always plenty of room at the back of the tower.

If your car runs faster than 10.99 seconds please see Willowbank raceway website for special additional requirements.

Clothing requirements

Minimum Long sleeve shirt, full length pants and closed footwear.

Australian Standard Helmet required

If you are competing you will be issued with an entry form at the gate. You will then make your way to the staging lanes where you will complete the Willowbank Raceway form and hand to scrutineer. They will check your helmet and issue you with a number and the number will be written on your windows with white boot polish. This washes off afterwards with no damage. At 4.30pm the lanes will be open and you will be free to run until event end. We will run our competition for points till 6.00pm. Once you have your club timing nomination form and have run down the track a few times you are ready to nominate your target time. Time slips are printed for each run and are available at the base of the tower for pick up. Please collect your time slips and if you want to be in the club scoring hand them in at 6.00pm to the appropriate club official.

For 2018 we are going to run the dial your own time format for scoring. After your test passes you will hand in your information sheet which will identify you and your race number and you will nominate your time. Points will be allocated for the closest 2 passes for the remainder of the meet to the nominated time and you will need to compete in both events to qualify for the end of year trophy. The trophies on offer will be First to Third Male and First to Third Female.

It is always a low stress great fun event. So please come out and have some fun and bring your mates with you. No need to advise your attendance in advance. Just make sure you are at the main gate by 4.00pm on the day.
