July 2009

Hi Folks,

I would like to thank the 48 members, 2 guests and 2 guest speakers that attended the May 29th General Meeting at Eagers Newstead. The 2 guest speakers being Danielle Argiro from the Brock Shop and John Tetley from Queensland Raceway and Lakeside Raceway. Danielle gave a great talk on setting up your car for a Motorsport Day and some of the main elements to be aware of in preparation for a track day. Well done Danielle and we look forward to having you support our Club Members if possible when these days are scheduled and your offer of advice and guidance which will make these days even more enjoyable for all in attendance.

It is always a pleasure to have John Tetley speak at a General Meeting. He is not only passionate about Motorsport in Queensland but the major contributor to providing one of the fastest and most advanced race tracks in the world with the development of Lakeside Raceway with its excellent facilities and the newly upgraded track.

Our next General Meeting will be held at Zupps Mt Gravatt on Friday the 31st July 2009. Gerard Forster and Matthew Haydock will fill us in on what’s new and the latest news from Zupps, Holden & HSV. We have organized guest speakers for the night so come and help us fill the Dealership showroom with Club Members and show your support for the Club and the Dealership whilst enjoying each others company for the night. LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL THERE!

Our friends at Toll Holden Racing Team have again done well in the Team Championship points and Driver’s Championship points after Race 8 at Simmons Park. Toll HRT are now coming second in both the Team and Driver Championship points.

Drivers Championship – Will Davison 2nd 948 Points (Only 96 points behind the leader)
Team Championship – Toll HRT 2nd 1,671 Points (Only 48 points behind the leader)

Still a long way to go in the championship, Will Davison and Toll HRT are looking good.

Craig Barrass has organised a Dyno Day at Walkinshaw Performance on the 4th July 2009. What a great opportunity to find out what that V8 will do before going to QR on the 18th for some track time. Craig has organised trophies for the day and a sausage sizzle, these are always a fun day.

Peter Woods has organised with QR some great Motorsport event days. The first being on Saturday 18th July 2009, full details are in this magazine. It has been mentioned in the past that the Club did not have enough Motorsport days, however this was due to the lack of member support and the amount of money the Club had to risk to book these days at QR or other such venues. Now all the hard yards have been put in by Peter to make these events possible and in such a controlled and well organised environment. As the Club has put at risk the funds to cover these events I anticipate the members of this great Club give their full support by registering and turning up to these days.

At a cost of only $110 I am sure there are a lot of Members who spend more than that on one car detail a month, I know I do. However this is all about having fun, refining your driving skills and enjoying the power and performance and capabilities of the wonderful HDT’s and HSV’s we drive. Not to mention the buzz at home after the Wife or partner gives her man of the household a run for his money with some great track times.

Come on Ladies give the guys a run for their money, Come on guys don’t let the ladies show you up!!! Come along and give it a go.

On Sunday 19th July 2009 come for a leisurely cruise through the Brisbane Valley then up to Toowoomba for lunch, Colin Humphreys has organised a awesome Cruise day lets see if we can make this one of the largest number of cars from the Club that has cruised together. Imagine how that would look!

Shortly after the printing of this magazine the Shannon’s Sport and Muscle Car Showdown will be happening on Sunday the 28th June. More about the success of the day will be in the next magazine.

Look forward to seeing you all at these great events that have been organised.
